Eucharistic Prayers for lent
The Lord be with you
And also with you
Lift up your hearts
We lift them to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right to give him thanks and praise
Almighty God, good Father to us all, your face is ever turned towards your world. In love you created us in your own image, yet in disobedience we continue to distort that image. In love you gave us Jesus your Son to rescue us from sin and death, yet in disobedience we continue to try to earn our salvation. In love you poured out your Spirit to empower a community of faith, yet in disobedience we continue to live selfishly in our own strength. Into the darkness, Jesus came as your light. With signs of faith and words of hope he touched untouchables with love and washed the guilty clean.
He accepted the way of the cross
That we might know the way of salvation
Father of all, we give you thanks for every gift that comes from heaven. We do not always understand them, we do not always accept them, we cannot always appreciate them. As we stand at the foot of the cross today, we can only wonder at the depth of your love, and bow down and worship.
He accepted the way of the cross
That we might know the way of salvation
The crowds came out to see your Son, yet at the end they turned on him. In Gethsemane he asked that you might take this cup from him, yet willingly he surrendered to your will for our sake.
He accepted the way of the cross
That we might know the way of salvation
On the night that he was betrayed he came to table with his friends to celebrate the freedom of your people. Jesus blessed you, Father, for the food; he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and said: This is my body, given for you all. Jesus then gave thanks for the wine; he took the cup, gave it and said: This is my blood, shed for you all for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me.
He accepted the way of the cross
That we might know the way of salvation
Therefore, Father, with this bread and this cup we celebrate the cross on which he died to set us free. Defying death he rose again and is alive with you to plead for us and for all the world. Send your Spirit on us now that by these gifts we may feed on Christ with eyes wide open and hearts on fire.
He accepted the way of the cross
That we might know the way of salvation
May we and all who share this food offer ourselves to live for you and be welcomed at your feast in heaven where all creation worships you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
Amen
And also with you

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise, O Lord our God, creator and ruler of the universe.
You established your everlasting covenant with all living creatures, setting your bow in the clouds as a sign of your promise that the waters would never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. (Gen. 9:8-17)
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with choirs of angels with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all the faithful of every time and place who forever sing to the glory of your name:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
You are holy, O God of majesty, and blessed is Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.
Baptized by John in the Jordan, anointed by your Holy Spirit, and tested in the wilderness, Jesus came to proclaim the good news that the time was fulfilled, and your kingdom had come near. (Mark 1:9-15)
Remembering your gracious acts in Jesus Christ, we take from your creation this bread and this wine and joyfully celebrate his dying and rising, as we await the day of his coming. With thanksgiving, we offer our very selves to you to be a living and holy sacrifice, dedicated to your service.
Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ.
By your Spirit, unite us with Christ and with your church in all the world.
Save us through the water of baptism in Christ Jesus; wash us clean from sin and deliver us from death so that we might be redeemed and reconciled to you.
Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever.
Amen

Almighty and Everlasting God,
You have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility.
He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man
And giving His life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to You
By following His example of suffering
And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Amen.

Jesus, you spent forty days in the hot, dusty desert to get ready to do your Father’s work.
Help us to get ready for Easter during the forty days of Lent.
Help us to forgive others, to say ‘sorry’ and to make peace with everybody.
Help us to say ‘yes’ to others so that we can follow you more closely.
In this time of Lent give us generous hearts to become better people,
More helpful people,
More loving people.
Amen

For the times when we have thought only about ourselves and our own needs.
LORD HAVE MERCY
For the times we have neglected to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty and clothe the naked.
CHRIST HAVE MERCY
For the times we have been insensitive to the sorrows and sufferings of others.
LORD HAVE MERCY
Let us pray
Father in Heaven,
The light of your truth gives sight to the darkness of sin.
May this season of Lent bring us the blessing of your forgiveness and may we change our ways and reach out more to others,
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
